Monarch Butterflies and the Heart of Mexico
All trips are cancelled until the situation in Mexico improves. Please check with us for future Monarch adventure trips.
Our hikes to the wintering roosting sites of millions of monarch butterflies are a once-in-a-life-time, magical experience. This is a rare opportunity to have a leading Monarch scientist, Dr. Bill Calvert as one of your personal guides. The trip's emphasis will be on the Monarch butterflies and exploring the natural history of the region; but the trip will also include many cultural, historical and culinary delights. We will visit several market places in historical villages, and observe Mexican people living in a rural area, grappling with the problems of making a living off of the land. We will visit people who live close to the butterflies, some of whom are not accustomed to tourists, and are trying hard to conserve the wintering sites of the Monarch butterflies from the effects of deforestation. We may also have a chance to visit a rural Mexican elementary school.
Trip Highlights:
line

• Roundtrip flight to the Galapagos from Quito, Ecuador
• While in the Galapagos, we will live on our private cruise yacht. Each night we will travel by sea and by day we will explore the uniqueness of a different island.
• The trip itinerary and all of the planned activities have been specifically designed to enable our travelers to experience everything the Galapagos has to offer.
• Daily hiking and snorkeling opportunities
• Because we hire our own private yacht that accommodates only sixteen people, we will be able to reach the outer islands where the larger tour boats cannot go.
• Travel to the outer Galapagos Islands to observe the endemic Red-footed Booby breeding colony and the Waved Albatrosses' during their mating dance rituals. These are two spectacular events that most tourists do not get to see during their trips to the Galapagos.
• Exploring the Galapagos during the peak time in April when the wildlife is either mating, nesting or tending to young
• A visit to the Darwin Research Center
• Tour the historical district of Quito, the capital of Ecuador upon our return from the islands

Cost: $1,500 per person Double occupancy.  Group limit: 18 people Roundtrip International Airfare to Morelia, Mexico is not included.
